Beckham

So David Beckham is now an LA Galaxy player and as a result, I’m sure that it is now only a matter of time before Americans have a glorious epiphany and gain a deep love for “soccer.” Hmm.

Alan Ball - England Hero

Alan Ball

This morning I woke to the sad news that England’s ‘66 World Cup hero, Alan Ball, had passed away.

Being only 22, I never got to see him as a player, however, having seen re-run’s of the ‘66 final, it was clear that he was a great player as well as seemingly, one of the nicest characters in football.

I remember watching last years PFA awards where he spoke to the England team before heading off to the World Cup in Germany, with more passion than I think I’ve ever heard any other England player or manager speak.

Alan Ball - a World Cup winner, a legend and an English national hero.

Find the light

March 8, 2004 The Colorado Avalanche played the Vancouver Canucks over one month after their previous meeting in which Steve Moore cheaply hit Vancouver captain Markus Naslund putting him out 3 games. In the third period of a heated game where Steve Moore ran his mouth off many times at Bertuzzi, and was repeatedly asked to “drop the gloves”. Steve Moore’s coach with little time left on the clock, knowing how heated things were (Av’s were winning 8-2) puts him on the ice with an already frustrated Bertuzzi. Moore begins to run his mouth again, Bertuzzi once again offers a fight, Moore refuses and turns aways (still trash talking). Bertuzzi angered grabs his jersey from behind, punches Moore in the head, then falls with him to the ice, riding his head in the ground. (more…)

Prevailing Underdogs

Wednesday, March 7th, 2007

David killed Goliath, the English defeated the Spanish Armada, Hogan slammed Andre the Giant, but last night, Liverpool knocked the European champions, Barcelona, out of the European Champions League.

I just felt that the Red men’s impressive display over the two legs against the Catalonians warrented a mention on the blog.

Prevailing underdogs give us hope.
